BME volunteer awards
Wai Yin Chinese Women's Society have been providing services to assist the North West's Chinese population since
1988 and represents one of the largest Chinese Community Centres in the UK, helping approximately 800 service users every week.
Wai Yin held a one day dissemination and BME Volunteer Awards Ceremony celebrating BME Volunteer Achievements. Wai Yin worked with Manchester Event Volunteers and other organisations to set up a Volunteer Award scheme focused on BME volunteers in the Manchester area. A selection of awards were presented for the following categories:
- Award for Innovation;
- Award for Commitment;
- Award for Inspiration;
- Award for empowering community;
- Award for Leadership;
- Award for Achievement;
- Outstanding BME volunteer of 2009.
Awards were distributed by the former Lord Mayor Afzal Khan, and many others. The event included a discussion on the role of volunteering and social exclusion of BME communities as well as praising and celebrating the work that Wai Yin had done. Overall the event was a success!
