Pathways to employment
Date: 19th March
Time: 9.30am - 4pm
SIFA Fireside is a Birmingham-based charity that works with people who are socially excluded or disadvantaged, tackling alcohol issues, homelessness and health inequalities through a variety of services ranging from drop ins to a residential service.
SIFA Fireside exists in order to empower its service users to independence and operates within a robust ethical framework. We positively promote the rights, freedoms and well being of service users through our service delivery, respecting self-determination and informed choice.
Sifa Fireside held a one day event to discuss how to promote volunteering to service users and how volunteering could be used as pathway to employment or further training. Seminars were led by representatives from Homeless link and Giving Real Opportunities for Work (GROW) and Crisis spoke about their experiences of involving service users and supporting them into employment.
One of our main speakers was from GROW which is a scheme set up by Thames Reach, offering a training programme designed to equip service users with the skills to compete in the market for work. Two essential strands of the programme are the development of routes into employment with Thames Reach, for example traineeships, volunteering and direct recruitment and the dissemination of organisational learning through a dedicated website. The event was well attended, structured and informative.
