Reaching LGBT Volunteers
The Consortium is an umbrella organisation that represents and supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered voluntary and community organisations. As part of this support the Consortium has an ongoing national training programme.
The consortium of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Trans voluntary organisations held a one day discussion based event around how to include LGBT, disabled and BME groups in volunteering.
There were very interesting discussions around what language is offensive and what is inoffensive the LGBT community. This brought up a lot of issues but I think a lot of people have learnt from them. The workshops were focused and I think that most of the delegates learnt something new around how to include LGBT groups in their organisations, especially how to market their organisation to LGBT community.
