BME volunteer management

Date: 17th February 2009,

Time: 10am to 3.00pm

The Latin American Women’s Rights Service’s (LAWRS) volunteering project will present a unique opportunity for Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups to share Good Practice on volunteer management at Sabor Latin American restaurant.

At LAWRS they believe that volunteering is a two-way exercise: organisations can grow and make a stronger impact on the community. In the same way, volunteers benefit by strengthening their self esteem, learning a trade or integrating positively into the community.

Latin American Women’s Rights Service held a one day event to Share good practice around including migrant and refugees in volunteering. Their main focus was around the legal issues of volunteers concentrating on asylum seekers. Mark Restall spoke about volunteer’s benefits and the CRB system for migrant and refugee groups, it was highly informative and many of the delegates felt that they had learnt something new.
