Engaging BME volunteers
Bromsgrove & Redditch Network (BARN) set up a networking and workshop event focused on volunteering and BME groups, how to identify groups to work with, and ways to make initial contact and opportunities available.
There were two workshops focusing on recruitment of volunteers from BME groups, and sharing good practice around engaging BME groups.
The first workshop discussed the recruitment of volunteers including, methods that are currently being used and new ways. Each delegate talked about their current activities and how they wanted to improve on their service.
The second workshop shared good practice. They asked what strategies were currently being used, areas of the community they want to engage with but not sure who to. All members of the group shared their ideas and experiences which proved useful to all. People had the chance to gain new contacts which hopefully they will use and work together in the future
