Breaking Down Barriers to
Volunteering
Date: 25th February 2009
Time:
Volunteer Centre Greenwich supports local people in the London Borough of Greenwich by signposting them to suitable volunteering opportunities. The Centre also works with local organisations who involve volunteers by promoting good practice.
There are many people in the local community who may have additional needs and may face barriers to volunteering. The barriers could be as a result of volunteer involving organisations lacking awareness on how to properly recruit, support and involve volunteers with additional needs.
This conference aims to provide information about volunteers with extra support needs. Volunteer centre Greenwich aims to support organisations to involve more volunteers with additional needs, challenge negative stereotypes and enhance the diversity of local organisations. In addition, it will set the scene for organisations to develop more inclusive London 2012 volunteer programmes so the wider community can benefit from the Olympic and Paralympic legacy.
There will be speakers and workshops on the day which will enable delegates to develop good practice around recruiting, supporting and understanding volunteers with additional needs. There will also be an opportunity for participants to feed in to the volunteer centres’ volunteering strategy which will help shape it’s services over the next five years.
If you are a Greenwich based organisation that involves or would like to involve volunteers, and would like more information about this event or would like support with your volunteer programme, please contact Volunteer Centre Greenwich on 0208 853 1331 or email info@volunteersgreenwich.co.uk
